UHBW Library for Apprentices

General Training offers

undefined

We provide free information skills training for all UHBW staff and students. We offer one-to-one and small groups training at times convenient to you, as well as regular drop-in clinics. Please contact library@uhbw.nhs.uk to find out the latest drop-in clinic dates or to arrange a session for yourself or a group of colleagues.

Our three main training sessions last an hour (though timing can be tailored to your needs):

  • Literature Searching and systematic review support: An in-depth guide on how to search like an expert. Useful for anybody who wants to find the best and quickest way to source articles and find relevant evidence. You may also want to try this searching e-learning course from HEE.
  • Critical Appraisal: How to assess the strengths and weaknesses of published articles. We look at different research designs, bias and validity, and frameworks that can be used to support critical appraisal.
  • Medical Statistics: A basic introduction to the key statistics in medical articles. The session gives an overview of statistics that compare risk, statistics that test confidence, and forest plots. Additional content focuses on statistics that analyse clinical investigations and test difference.

We can also give a General Library Introduction, which covers how to access the Library and its resources, an overview of our print and electronic resources, and the services and training we offer.

If you would like to book on to a particular session, (or arrange for a one-to-one session with a librarian) please email library@uhbw.nhs.uk.
